For some reason during lunch today, I became deeply philosophical about life. Maybe it was the salsa, maybe it was the 108 degree weather or quite possibly it was something I heard on NPR. I’m not sure and it doesn’t really matter. Once I realized that my brain was producing some interesting things to ponder, I immediately opened my journal and began recording my inner dialog. It went something like this… and in this order.

Good things happen to good people and bad people always have hell to pay.
Life is about stepping through the doors of opportunity with much thought and little hesitation.
Life is like poker, win the most hands with the cards you are dealt. If the cards are bad, bluff like hell.
The trick to success today is finding real truth among the mindless chatter of information.
Experts are made, not born.
The road to success is different for everyone — The trick is finding the right path for you.
For every problem you face, ask yourself — In the grand scheme of things, does this truly matter?
Value is wholly dependent upon the importance you place on a given thing.
To truly listen is the greatest compliment a person can give.
Sometimes opportunity softly raps at the door, sometimes it pounds loudly and sometimes it even gently taps on a window, be prepared for any of them.

Whatever the source of these thoughts may have been, I have enjoyed their company all afternoon. I think that there may even be something to learn somewhere in there.

Boomerjack’s Wings & Grill – Review

Do you ever go to one of those Buffalo Wing restaurants, get your wings and then wonder where in the world they found those TINY chickens? Me too.
Well, allow me to introduce you Boomerjack’s Wings & Grill. From mild to Nuclear Blast, they have big juicy wings in flavors for everyone. Aside from the giant wings, they offer some pretty sweet bourbon baked beans and fried pickles.
Thirsty? Choose from a large selection local, domestic and import beers. If your in the mood for stronger spirits, they have those too.
As far as atmosphere, it’s your standard wing shop, lots of wide Screen TV’s strategically placed around the place and tuned to various ESPN channels, a couple of bar top video games and plenty of napkins on a roll.

Star Trek Movie Review

First, I have to tell you that I was dragged to this movie by my Trekkie boyfriend (caps intentional).

Second, I now firmly believe that J.J. Abrams is a demigod.

The new Star Trek movie has the adventure of Indiana Jones, the action of a Jackie Chan and the cheeky fun of Sean of the Dead. Throw in the space-time continuum debate and you have one heck of a good movie.

The story line grabs you from the beginning with a well placed tug at the heart strings and keeps you through to the end with one action packed scene after another.

Along the way, Abrams pays homage to the original Star Trek series with all your favorite time worn phrases. Phrases like “Dammit Man, I’m a Doctor, not a (insert profession here)!” or the ubiquitous “Live Long and Prosper”. I think I even heard “I’m givin’ her all she’s got, captain”, but I can’t be sure since the applause was so loud. You read right, applause, in the theater, amazing stuff.

Finally, Abrams deserves credit for telling the story without the need to have a ‘message’. I don’t want to spoil the movie so I won’t go into detail, but I love the fact that he doesn’t get caught up in the Hollywood penchant for ‘preachiness’. He simply tells a damn good story with great actors and stunning effects.
